Ensure your PC is Protected by Windows Defender it leaves no necessity for Third-Party security software i.e. Norton or McAfee. First step, Update Windows Security read my blog click here

If you have a very unstable system or you notice slower than usual performance. Refresh your Windows 8.1 system it will give you a brand new start. This sometimes is necessary even after removing virus or spyware or reinstalling Antivirus/Spyware software. Choose to Refresh your PC from the Options Screen.

    Refresh Option performs
1. Starts Windows RE. 2. Saves user settings and files to a location on the same disk. 3. Reinstalls a fresh copy of Windows 8.1. 4. Restores user files and settings. 5. Restarts the new installation of Windows 8.1.

The Update and Recovery section is also another way to Refresh Windows 8.1 from the Apps Screen just hold down the windows logo key and tap the "x" key and select on search type recovery select recovery options.

Navigate to Programs and Features in the upper left hand window pane click on View Installed Updates it will be necessary to know how to get here after you completed your Refresh process and you have completed the the download and installation of the recommended and important updates as described in my blog link referenced here again for your convenience How to Refresh Windows 8.1.

Issue: Running Windows 8.1 the "Windows 10 App" icon does not appear in the Systray as the picture here shows.

Open notepad hold down the Windows Logo Key and Tap "s" this open search everywhere text box type 'notepad' and press enter on the keyboard. Cut and paste exactly as is the content below into a notepad and name it ReserveWin10.cmd. To make it easier for you I have provided a Download Link below labeled "Windows 10 Upgrade Fix".

Download this file and "save as" in your "Desktop".

Easy Stuff! Now, Save it to the Desktop which is the first link in Windows Explorer Pane under This PC when you double-click on Desktop you will see the 'Save As' window address line in the top middle change from 'Downloads' to 'Desktop'.

Let's wrap this up to Go. Next, run the file as Administrator. Go to your Desktop find the file

Right-Click on the file. Select on Run as Administrator You'll left-click Yes on the User Account Control box.

Hold the function key and keep tapping the F11 key on the top row of your keyboard to access the restore options immediately after pressing the start button. In the Restore Options Select Refresh Windows by selecting the middle option troubleshoot. This will allow you to renew your original files and keeps your settings specific to your user account. Programs and Apps removed will be listed for you on the desktop after the process is complete which should take approximately 1-hour not including updates.

You can also access the advanced options window through update and recovery as shown below. Regardless you'll need to navigate here to complete Windows Updates.

Navigate to Update and Recovery by moving mouse pointer over the lower-right edge corner and move pointer up hovering over the gear symbol left-click on Settings. Then, select on "change PC settings" at the bottom.

An easier way hold down the Windows Logo Key and Tap the "S" key type in the text box "View your update history for Windows" using the arrow in the upper left corner to leave history, click on "view details" .

Next, select on the check boxes for all the Important and Recommended Updates left-click on the install button at the top.

To Get the Charms on the Right edge and the Time Display move the mouse to the lower right corner and move it up along the edge and hover over settings. Also by pressing the Windows logo key you can easily switch to the standard desktop you're accustomed to using on Windows XP and 7.

Toggle back to the Apps Screen using the Windows Logo on your keyboard or touch screen.

Next, Right-click on any tile on your Apps Screen uninstall it.

Lastly, Hold down the Windows Logo Key and tap the S-key. Here you type "Task Manager" on the search text box. Immediately it appears choose it from the list by Right-clicking on it and left-clicking once to choose "pin to start". You will see it on the Apps Screen, click on it. This too gets you back to the desktop.


Notice the two Windows open on the Desktop the Task Manager and Explorer get to know them.
